Why you do not need a website

The question that comes up first thing after someone understands what I do for a living.

Do you think I need a website? Is it worth having one?

Most of the people who ask this question are just starting out. Some have a business idea that they think will transform overnight in a successful business. Most of them believe it is almost automatic to build a successful business online and more importantly, that it is cheap and easy. Maybe even free.

“There is no such thing as a Free anything in this world. Websites included”

I almost always answer the person: no. You don’t need a website. It’s super expensive and it’s an investment that will harm you more then it will help you. Why do I answer with that instead of just asking for the money and build the website they want?

Let’s see. Who is the person would that asks this kind of question first?

  1. Someone who never had a website.
  2. A person that has a website who sits there on the internet and does nothing. Done probably by some close relative or friend who wanted to help out.

We are definitely talking to someone who has no experience whatsoever in what it means to have a digital presence. And it is normal to be that person.

” You are not supposed to know if you need a website – but as a business owner, your job is to find out if one will help your business “

And the only way to find that out is to have a consultation with a professional. Why do I say a consultation when there are thousands of articles online about websites? Because YOU, your BUSINESS and your situation are UNIQUE. And all the articles out there are written for all the reasons except the one that perfectly suits the help YOU.

So why read this article anyhow? Because it will explain why you don’t need a website NOW. Let me take a guess. In this present moment, let me illustrate how you see the idea of your website.

This is your website and this is the people who are searching online for the service or product that you are providing.

According to Global Internet usage – Wikipedia as of June 2018, 55.1% of the world’s population has internet access. Since January 2019 – 4,100,667,287 internet users. We are talking about billions of people who are now capable to encounter your website, right?

Well, not necessary.

As of January 2019 there were over 1.94 billion websites on the Internet. Read more interesting statistics here.

What does this mean? For a user who has two eyes, one brain and one screen (sometimes two or three but he can not look two at the same time), this is how the internet looks like.

What does this mean to you and your business? It means that your website is not what you need right now. A website is just one of the tools that will help you build a relationship with the people you want to impact and help.

“A website is a tool in a set of tools that, done right, will play it’s role in building trust in your Business”

If not now, then when is the right time to start talking about a website? Answer all the following questions with YES. If you did, then it is time to talk about your website.

  1. Do I have a product or a service that solves someone’s problem?
  2. Did I successfully work with at least 5 customers and they are very happy about the collaboration?
  3. Do I have a budget of at least 5-10% of my income dedicated to investing in promoting my business?
  4. Does my business support my lifestyle? My business pays me a market-based salary (even if you are the owner)?
  5. Am I willing to invest money and/or time in building a brand?

Practically if you have answered all the above questions with YES, you find yourself in the position to talk about building not only a website but a strong online presence.

We, at #bemarcable, specialize in building that strong online presence that we call “remarkable brand experience for YOUR customer”.
